Montblanc operates internationally in more than 130 countries, selling exclusively through its network of authorised retailers and jewellers, as well as its 520-plus Montblanc boutiques worldwide, of which more than 120 are in China.

Montblanc began operations in China in 1992 and established its own subsidiary in 2005. China became its largest market in 2008 and continues to be so today.

In their search for the highest quality, Chinese customers have been seduced by Montblanc products and the Maison’s quest for refinement. The Maison has also successfully launched several pioneering products aimed at Chinese millennials, which have become popular among the country’s younger generation, including the Summit smartwatch, the Augmented Paper series and the Trolley line and showing the outstanding pioneer spirit of Montblanc.

Montblanc’s social and cultural commitment in China is evidenced by a variety of activities such as the Montblanc Cultural Foundation’s honouring of outstanding patrons of the arts with the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award since 1992. In 2018, the award has so far been presented to art patrons in 17 countries worldwide. The Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award ceremony has been held in mainland China since 2003 and it has lasted for 15 years, during which time honoring patrons from the fields of culture, music, visual art, sculpture and so on have been honoured. In the past three years, the nominees have included Fan ZHANG (founder of the Midi Festival and the Midi School), Zhen XU, (contemporary artist and curator) and Zhongjun WANG (co-founder of the Huayi Brothers Foundation and renowned art collector).

With its sense of purpose deeply rooted in the culture of writing, Montblanc has collaborated with UNICEF since 2004 to support UNICEF literacy and education programmes. In 2017, Montblanc unveiled its Montblanc for UNICEF collection in Shanghai in order to pass on the precious gift of writing and raise funds for teacher training programmes, as well as guidance and tools to provide quality education to students. Montblanc funds will contribute to supporting child-friendly schools and systems in China. This includes interventions that focus on climate-change education, gender equality and school safety.

Montblanc has been a partner in various art projects of local artists and has twice brought the Philharmonic of the Nations Orchestra to China, which is composed of 50 talented young members from 19 different nations and four continents.

In June 2009, Shanghai’s The Bund magazine presented Montblanc with the Best Social Responsibility Award in recognition of Montblanc’s continued social and cultural engagement.

With its headquarters based in Hamburg, the Maison is proud to be an active supporter of the 2018 Hamburg Summit, thus contributing to the strengthening of economic, political and cultural ties between China and Europe.
