2012 年 11 月 28 日 - 30 日，来自 21 个国家的政商界和学术界的 440 位高层代表齐聚“汉堡峰会：中国与欧洲相遇”，共同探讨中欧关系。本届大会的特邀嘉宾是中国科技部部长万钢、德国联邦教育及研究部部长安妮特·沙万和欧洲 议会副主席乔吉奥斯·帕帕斯塔姆卡罗斯教授。万钢能说非常流利的德语，曾在德国生活和工作了近 15 年，他在会上宣布，中国新一届政府将在中国经济的发展中更加注重创新。他还呼吁在中国和欧洲之间开辟“一条新的丝绸之路”。
在本次会议上众多别开生面的讨论中，中欧贸易关系都成为了焦点话题。其他讨论的话题包括中国在全球经济中的作用、确保对原材料的获取、“智能城市”，以及中国和欧洲在多极化世界中的战略。但是，最吸引大部分与会者关注的莫过于德国前总理赫尔穆特·施密特和他的老朋友，美国前国务卿亨利·基辛格博士之 间的精彩对话。在气氛热烈的讨论中，两人阐述了他们对中国未来发展的看法，以及由此将使欧洲和美国在全球治理中的主导作用发生怎样的变化。2012“汉堡 峰会”的联合主办方是中国工业经济联合会 (CFIE) 和中国服务贸易协会 (CATIS)，后者派出了大型商务代表团参加会议。
